Giới từ — Dạng bài "dễ mất điểm" nhất TOEIC Part 5
Câu hỏi giới từ (prepositions) chiếm khoảng 15–20% câu hỏi Part 5. Đặc điểm: không có công thức cố định, phụ thuộc vào collocation (cụm từ đi kèm). Cách duy nhất để làm đúng là nhớ cụm từ, không phải suy luận ngữ pháp.
Bài viết này tổng hợp tất cả giới từ quan trọng trong TOEIC, phân loại theo nhóm để dễ ghi nhớ.
Nhóm 1: Giới từ chỉ thời gian (Time)
In, On, At — Quy tắc cơ bản

Ngoại lệ thường gặp trong TOEIC
- at night (KHÔNG phải "in night")
- on time = đúng giờ (KHÔNG phải "in time")
- in time = kịp thời (khác nghĩa với "on time")
- at the beginning/end of = vào đầu/cuối (thời kỳ)
- in advance = trước, sớm ("Please register in advance.")
Nhóm 2: Giới từ chỉ địa điểm (Place)

Nhóm 3: 25 cụm giới từ cố định (Fixed Prepositional Phrases) — HAY THI NHẤT
Đây là nhóm quan trọng nhất. TOEIC rất hay hỏi các cụm này:

Phương pháp giải câu hỏi giới từ Part 5
Bước 1: Nhận diện dạng bài (3 giây)
4 đáp án là 4 giới từ khác nhau (in, on, at, for) → Dạng giới từ.
Bước 2: Tìm cụm từ cố định (5 giây)
Đọc từ đứng trước hoặc sau chỗ trống. Nếu nhận ra collocation quen thuộc → chọn ngay.
Bước 3: Nếu không nhận ra cụm từ (10 giây)
Dùng quy tắc thời gian/nơi chốn (in/on/at) để loại trừ.
5 bẫy giới từ TOEIC hay gặp
- due to vs because of: Cả hai đều nghĩa "bởi vì" + cụm danh từ. Nhưng "due to" thường đi sau "be" ("The delay was due to...")
- despite vs although: Despite + N/V-ing, Although + S + V. TOEIC hay đặt bẫy cho nhầm.
- by vs until: By = trước thời điểm. Until = kéo dài cho đến.
- for vs since: For + khoảng thời gian (for 3 years). Since + mốc thời gian (since 2020).
- in vs within: In = sau bao lâu nữa (in 2 days = 2 ngày nữa). Within = trong vòng (within 2 days = trong vòng 2 ngày).
